Get to know Scott

Specializing in complex trauma, relationships, addictive patterns, and stress in this complicated generation of our planet, Scott Bean has cultivated a counseling style that is calming, genuine, and collaborative. He works with adult individuals and couples struggling with difficult and painful life transitions, relationship problems, intimacy issues, career challenges, midlife, grief, depression, obsession, anxiety, and addictions

His toolkit includes Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), 12-Steps, and mindfulness.

His experience lies in navigating cross-addictions involving Internet, work, shopping, social media, sex, substances, and alcohol use. Scott works closely with clients to carefully explore underlying thoughts and emotions from the past that may be influencing coping patterns, feelings, and relationships in the present. These include family-of-origin issues, attachments, past trauma, emotional neglect, abandonment, or a constellation of other factors. Emphasis is placed on building resilience through awareness of where people may be “stuck” in their protective responses (i.e., fight, flight, or freeze), and gently guiding them away from these unwanted states toward more favorable experiences.

Scott understands recovery and how difficult this work can be. His compassion shows in his support and acceptance of people exactly the way they are. Although his primary theoretical approach to counseling is Person-Centered, he integrates an array of specialized techniques for a more holistic picture of clients’ stories and opportunities.

Scott is currently pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Texas at Dallas. With an international business background in innovation consulting, it is in Scott’s DNA to empathetically learn clients’ stories and facilitate positive change together with them. In parallel, for over 20 years, he has worked with families of alcoholics in AL-ANON Family Groups as a mentor-sponsor, international speaker, and participant in that program. He has been practicing yoga for over 15 years.

In his free time, Scott thrives in nature; he enjoys running and biking at White Rock Lake. He appreciates detail in all types of design, and he loves to cook with his family and friends, especially fresh Thai food recipes. As a culturally-curious world traveler, Scott would love to hear about your adventures!
