Get to know Shimya

Shimya Smith is a dedicated therapy intern who is passionate about helping children, teens, adults, and couples overcome obstacles and discover their inner strengths. She specializes in play therapy, mindfulness, life transitions, self-esteem, ADHD, and relational and interpersonal challenges. Shimya is also dedicated to her Caribbean background, which enhances her ability to empathize with multicultural clients and understand racial and cultural identities that may be uniquely challenging. 

Shimya’s comprehension of the obstacles people encounter at various phases of their lives has grown significantly through her work with a variety of clients, including neurodiverse populations and  persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With a unique combination of academic expertise and professional experiences,  her approach to counseling is founded on compassion, understanding, and evidence-based methods. Each plan is individually customized for specific needs to help clients attain their goals. 

Shimya earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Shorter University and is currently completing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University.
