We’ve had our sights set on Lana Raley for several years. Thanks to our aggressive recruiting efforts (we bribed her), we snagged her on a part-time basis to work with kiddos at LifeWorks. With her specialty in child therapy, she brings to the table a lot more than a box of crayons and some glue. She has worked in the education setting for 19 years — half the time teaching in the elementary classroom and half as an elementary school counselor. Lana remains the school counselor for Bradfield Elementary in Highland Park.
Lana made the crossover from teacher to therapist when she found herself more concerned with her students’ social and emotional well-being than their GPA. Not that these things aren’t all connected. It’s just that Lana is now equipped to handle them all. Can you say “TAKS Test anxiety”?
With all that school counseling experience, Lana is also a huge help to kids and young adults making the transition and adjustments to college life.
Lana ventured to foreign lands (California) for college. A graduate of Pepperdine University, she later completed her Masters in Counseling from TX A & M – Commerce. Tragically, she married a die-hard Sooner. Since Lana is a true-to-her-roots Texan (despite that little foray to CA), their marriage is clearly divided at the Red River Shootout. Lana and her husband work hard at being unified in raising their blended family in spite of this obvious (and for most, crippling) obstacle.
Ask her to describe her current life experience in one word and she’ll say, “exhaustion.” She can’t make it through a movie without falling asleep. To fight off the fatigue of a hard worker and a good sport, Lana keeps interactive hobbies like trying new recipes from the Food Network. Oh. And chop-blocking her husband each time he recommends the bedroom be painted that awful OU crimson, God love him…
