Ly (pronounced “Lee”) was born in Houston two years after his parents left South Vietnam during the war in 1975. Growing up in an immigrant household, Ly studied first-hand the difficulties of adjusting to life in a new country, a new culture. In this dual-culture environment, Ly developed a heightened awareness of how a person’s family and culture can affect emotional, social and spiritual development.
Ly survived Houston public schooling, then went on to Trinity University in San Antonio, where he earned a Computer Science and Business degree. Ly spent a few years as an IT consultant for Deloitte and traveled the country trying to gain a better understanding of what life was like for professionals in corporate America. In 2005, he returned to school to attend Dallas Theological Seminary in hopes of finding ways to serve God and to invest his life in the lives of others. He graduated in August of 2007 with a Masters in Biblical Counseling. In June of 2009, he returned to school at Texas A&M Commerce to start work on his PhD in Counseling Education. He plans to finish by 2015.
Since his business experience left him with the unfortunate legacy of being knowledgeable about all things electronic, Ly serves as The LifeWorks Group’s IT dude, stuck with the responsibility for teasing out answers to our intricate and stubborn tech problems. Ly is a very patient man. While he has a desire to work with all people in need of help and healing, Ly has a unique passion for issues related to marriage & family, depression, and abuse/trauma, especially within the context of cross-cultures and various ethnic backgrounds, as well as dealing with these and other issues with a biblical perspective. His counseling strengths are premarital and marital , depression, grief, anger, and men’s issues. Ly also works with those who prefer their therapy to be Christian focused.
In the rare times when Ly is not counseling, studying, ministering at his local church, fixing computer problems, or spending time with family and friends, spends his time renovating homes and running an Italian gelato shop (Paciugo). Random huh? To unwind and relax, Ly is a huge fan of movies and his Houston Rockets. Ly and his beautiful, smart wife are also proud and profoundly sleep-deprived parents of a baby girl, Ava.
Little known fact: he also makes a wicked chocolate cake.
Ly charges $100 for a 50 minute session.
