Cross-Cultural Counseling
Let’s be honest: you are different. You have characteristics about you that are unique. It’s what makes you, well… you. You also identify with a certain group or groups. It may be racial, cultural, ethnic, or other special interest backgrounds. Here’s the problem: because of these differences and similarities, sometimes you hit it off with another person—the “they get me feeling,” And, sometimes you do not.
Here at Lifeworks, we get you. We get that your beliefs, values and culturally diverse backgrounds are important to you. They contribute to your identity. We get it because we believe the same thing. That’s why we strive to consider cultural concerns with every client.
Cross-cultural Counseling is defined as the helping process that defines goals and uses specifically tailored techniques and strategies that are consistent with the life contexts, environments, experiences and cultural values of clients. It also takes into account the individual as well as the racial/ethnic group’s beliefs and traditions in which the individual identifies with in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
