You can avoid burnout, conquer the “choke,” and rediscover the joy of sport.
Athletes are a rare breed. Most (well, normal) people wouldn’t call waking up at 5am for a boot camp workout or a 10 mile run “fun.”
Those who think high performance athletes are nuts just roll over and wish you’d turn off the light. Those of us who DO get it, however, share a unique understanding of the physical and mental challenges facing the serious athlete.
At LifeWorks, our therapists not only know you’re not nuts – we get it. We can help you find your confidence, hone your mental game, find your joy among all that smelly workout gear, and discover solutions to these common but often unspoken issues:
- Does your anxiety or fear get in the way of your performance?
- Are you looking to improve your focus and tune out distractions?
- Are you looking to set realistic and attainable goals for your sport performance?
- Are you stuck in a performance slump?
- Do you perform better in practice than in competition?
- Do you sometimes think you should have “Choker” written on the back of your jersey?
- Do you dwell on your mistakes and failures?
- Do you find it hard to get motivated and to stay motivated?
- Are you burned out?
- Has an injury knocked you off track?
- Have you recently retired from sport and find yourself feeling lost, confused and doubtful about what’s next?
At LifeWorks, we understand the athlete’s mind. The mental aspect of sport and competition can be simultaneously the most challenging and the most neglected. Don’t label yourself a choker or give in to the urge to burn out. Most athletic performance issues can be addressed and conquered.
Think of getting help as going on a long run with that great “runner’s high” at the end. Except in our case, you get to sit down during your mental workout and have a Dr. Pepper while you’re at it.
