Do you ever feel like the universe pointed its finger at YOU?
Remember in 8th grade, when your favorite band broke up AND your date to the dance dumped you on the slow ones? You were in shock. Maybe you cried, got angry, pouted … and then eventually moved on with your life.
Now multiply that by 1000 and imagine you will never be able to move on from that distress. Imagine how emotionally exhausted you’d be.
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not just regular pain. It’s as if the traumatizing event will never go away. Events such as natural disasters, war, terrorism, accidents, prison stay, rape, assault, or abuse can lead to PTSD. When such horrifying events happen, people can walk around living in constant fear and wondering how the rest of the world could just go on like nothing happened.
Trauma recovery and PTSD can feel hopeless. But The LifeWorks Group has the training and the tools to help you get some relief.
Do you experience…
- flashbacks?
- nightmares?
- avoidance of places, people or conversations that remind you of the trauma?
- inability to enjoy once joyful activities?
- feelings of detachment or estrangement from others?
- difficulty falling or staying asleep?
- irritability or anger outbursts?
- difficulty concentrating?
- increased anxiety?
- symptoms have lasted longer than a month after the trauma?
- Slapping, pushing, grabbing, shaking, smacking, kicking, punching
- Tries to control different aspects of your life: how you should dress, who you hang out with, what you say, demanding to know where you are at all times
- Humiliates you/make you feel unworthy: putdowns
- Threatens to harm you/harm themselves if you leave
- Twist the truth by telling you that it is your fault the abuse happened
- Constant jealousy or anger when you spent time with friends and/or family
- Unwanted sexual advances that make you feel uncomfortable
