Get to know Christa
Whether you’re looking for a therapist to provide support and encouragement or one who will challenge you and keep you accountable, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Supervisor Christa Whorton adapts her approach to meet your needs. She works with adolescents, adults, families, and couples at Lifeologie Counseling St. Johns, where she also serves as clinical director and supervisor.
Christa has a decade of experience helping clients who are struggling with stress, self-esteem, codependency, depression, anxiety, work-related stress, criminal charges, life transitions and relationship/family discourse. She believes it’s the little things that matter and prioritizes small changes over time vs. quick fixes that are not sustainable.
Christa approaches therapy as a puzzle with missing pieces. The more she learns of her client’s background, experiences, strengths, and behaviors that no longer serve them, the better she can assist with building a foundation of self-respect, developing healthy coping strategies, improving relationships with others, or challenging long held beliefs, whether they stem from religion, family norms or one’s environment.
She utilizes therapeutic techniques including Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Psychodynamic Therapy, and behavior activation.
Christa was called to social work and mental health therapy since she was a freshman in high school. Prioritizing relationships and lending an ear to the problems of others always came naturally to her. Her passion led to earning a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of North Florida, followed by her Master’s in Social Work from Florida State University.
When Christa is not in session or working to develop up-and-coming therapists, you can find her reading, by the pool or the beach, participating in local events, or trying new restaurants.
