Get to know Dunya
Dunya Alkaissi is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate with a passion for helping individuals navigate life’s complexities. At her core, she is a compassionate listener and a firm believer in the transformative power of counseling. Dunya is particularly drawn to supporting adolescents, young adults, and people of Middle Eastern descent as they navigate complex trauma, identity development, and emotional regulation. She helps clients navigate complex trauma, childhood trauma, PTSD, and related concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, stress, grief, and racial trauma.
Rooted in empathy, authenticity, and collaboration, Dunya’s counseling style is focused on creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can process difficult experiences and reconnect with their sense of self. She draws from evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and person-centered approaches, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care.
Dunya’s motivation stems from her desire to support young people and trauma survivors in reclaiming their stories and rebuilding trust in themselves and the world around them. She aims to foster a therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, validated, and empowered.
She earned her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina State University, where she also completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology with minors in International and Middle Eastern Studies.
Outside the counseling room, Dunya enjoys film photography as a way to find beauty in life’s complexities, a perspective that deeply informs her therapeutic work. She is also an avid traveler who finds meaning in exploring cultures and expanding her understanding of the human experience. In her downtime, she cherishes quality time with friends and family.
Dunya believes that healing is not a linear journey but one that deserves to be met with patience, care, and curiosity. She is honored to walk alongside her clients as they work toward growth and wellbeing.
